Upgrade to 8.2 and patch 3

Jump to solution

Can someone help me find documentation to do the upgrade?

I was also told that I have to do both our primary and replica servers the same day.  We never had to do this in the past.  Is this true?

The https://community.rsa.com/docs/DOC-45063 has information on installing 8.2 as a fresh install as well has how to upgrade from 8.1 to 8.2.  Once 8.2 is installed on your primary and replica(s), you can install patch 3.

Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Hi Jon,

The readme for 8.2 patch 3 can be found here: https://community.rsa.com/docs/DOC-64632

It's recommended to upgrade the Replica after upgrading the Primary as soon as possible but there's nothing that forces you to do it the same day. Please note that some upgrades have schema changes so you could run into a replication issue if you don't maintain the same patch level between Primary and Replicas.

Hope that help,

Brian

If you upgrade to 8.2, you do the primary first. From this point forward if you have replicas

and they are lower than 8.2, they will not replicate until the replica(s) is also patched up to 8.2

So, when crossing over the hump between 8.1.x and 8.2, you should plan on a major maintenance

window, and plan up upgrading all machines you care about being able to replicate properly.

When I upgraded from 8.1 SP1 Patch 13 to 8.2 in our Dev environment, after I had upgraded the Primary I discovered that replication to the Replica was broken. Further investigation revealed that this is a known issue caused by mismatched versions (8.1 / 8.2) between the Primary and Replica, and as soon as the Replica was upgraded to 8.2, replication started working again.

So it is absolutely crucial that the Primary and ALL Replicas are upgraded in the same maintenance window, and your HelpDesk should be made aware that there will be a significant window when PIN resets etc. will appear not to work (because they aren't being replicated).

The 8.1 to 8.2 upgrade has a schema change so you need to do the replica immediately following the Primary, that is correct. 8.2 patch 3 wouldn't be as drastic a change so not a hard requirement. Though we do advise doing it as soon as possible and not to run at different patch levels.

Erica,

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!
