Upgrading Authentication Manager 8.1
Hello,
I will be upgrading our Authentication Manager from 8.1 to 8.1SP1 to 8.1.1.15.0 and had some questions:
We have an 8.1 appliance and one VM replica and a web tier running.
During the primary upgrade from 8.1 to 8.1SP1 will the VM replica authenticate users?
I'm planning to update the RSA AM by first updating the primary to 8.1SP1 then the VM Replica to 8.1SP1, Once completed will do the primary to 8.1.1.15 and then the VM Replica to 8.1.1.15.
We will also be upgrading the Web Tier to 8.1.1.2 was wondering When that should be done was planning to do it after the 8.1.1.15 patch on the VM Replica.
we have a schedule setup so I have plenty of backups of the AM.
If I'm missing anything let me know or if there is a better way to do this process. at some poing I'm assuming the AM will be down an unable to authenticate users does this sound correct?
Thank you,
Lance Bouchard

Hello Lance,
As long as you have one instance up and running while the other instance is updating the patch, then the users will be able to authenticate fine through that instance whether it is the primary or replica.
The only outage will you have is that you will lose administrative actions on the primary while it is upgrading, and also you will not be bale to access web-tiers while the primary is being upgraded.
And for the web-tier update you will have to do it on primary after you apply the update 8.1.1.15. And it has nothing to do with the replica update, but if you want to wait till the replica is updated ot the same patch level as the primary that won't affect anything from the perspective of updating the web-tier.
So kindly check and advise us back if there is any assistance needed from our side.
Best Regards,

Hello Hussein,
Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds good if I upgrade past the 15 patch to say 8.2 will I need to re-install the Web Tier?
Thank you,

Web Tiers are version specific,
so, this statement is always true: for any patch you install, read the readme for the patch, and it tells
you what to do with the Web Tiers.

Hello Hussein,
In upgrading and reinstalling the Web Tier are there any step-by-step instructions for this? We are using a Linux server and have some questions but if there is a document that outlines the correct steps to take that would be helpful.
Like do we need to remove the old web tier settings on the primary or can we just re-deploy the web-tier deployment package again.
Reading it sounds like we would need to remove the old installation folders from the Web Tier Server.
Just need help to avoid any pitfalls.
Thank you,
