Upgrading to AM 8.1 SP1

Jump to solution

Hi we are running AM 8.1 and I see that the product goes End of Support in Dec 2016

We are running a Primary and a number of Replica's

Can you tell me the Upgrade steps to go from 8.1 to 8.1 SP1 for the Primary and the replica

I'm not 100% familiar with the AM 8.1 product so simple steps would suffice

Thanks in Advance

basic steps

-download 8.1 sp1 update, it is 8.1.1.0.0 iso file

https://community.rsa.com/docs/DOC-43327

-make a backup first

-then upload this in the operations console of the RSA server and install it

-takes about ~15 minutes

-**must be done on the primary first, then replicas, one at a time**

Just after I posted this I seen there is 8.2 so I would take it its best to upgrade to 8.2 than just going to 8.1.1

Same Process ?

Thanks

fyi , looks like you have to go to 8.1 service pack 1 first, then go to 8.2, then 8.2 patch 2

This is from the 8.2 patch 2 notes:

Upgrading to RSA Authentication Manager 8.2 Patch 2
RSA Authentication Manager 8.2 is a prerequisite release for this patch. Version 8.2 does not support direct migration from earlier versions. To use existing data from Authentication Manager 6.1, 7.1, or 8.0, do the following:
1. Deploy Authentication Manager 8.1 Service Pack 1. (8.1.1)
2. Migrate existing data from Authentication Manager 6.1, 7.1, or 8.0. (doesn't apply here)
3. Update Authentication Manager 8.1.1 to version 8.2.
4. Install this patch.

Thanks Edward,

Does the RSA server stop service during update ?
I wondered whether I should announce our client cannot use authentication feature during update or not.

-takes about ~15 minutes

That's what Replicas are for.

If you have at least 1 replica with your primary AM server, users never miss out on authenticating.  While you patch the Primary, your Help Desk Admins will be kicked out of their sessions, for about 15 minutes as you said, but Users will still authenticate from their agents to the Replica(s).  Even the Base License includes 1 replica.

A Replica is kind of a real time back of your database, and if the replica is located in a different Data Center, it is also your Disaster Recovery plan.  All in One.
