I need to backup envision data, logs, devices, database...., some client asked me to reinstall a fresh OS but he wanted to keep all his data.
Is there a way to do that? This is the first time I use enVision.
There are many factors to consider here that may affect your restore, and I would recommend that you use the professional services to do this since you sound like you aren't overly familiar with the application.
The reports can be copied easily enough...just copy the files in the etc\reports folder (in 3.5.1 it is in e:\nic\3501\<appservername>\etc\reports) to wherever you want them (a thumb drive, for instance). I think that you can do the same for alerts in the etc\devices\correlation_1001 folder (but I have not verified this). The data itself can be backed up and restored via lsmaint commands (see the help files for lsmaint for syntax and a better explanation).
As for the devices themselves...the only time we've had to start from scratch, I rebuilt the device configurations manually, so I'm not sure about those (though I would assume there are some flat files that contain this information). Anyone else have experience with this?
Oh, and just a reminder...you will want to use the supplied OS image from RSA -- there are some specific hooks in it for the application.
I also reccomend using a solution like EMC Networker or a similar backup agent. Just make sure to have one backup of everything except the logs and one backup of the IPDB. There are guidelines on SCOL per the supproted backup agent.
