Hi all,
I'm in charge of an upgrade from 7.1 to new hardware and I've found a big stopper in the project.
There are two appliances in production running 7.1 The customer bought new appliances and as expected, they come pre-installed with 8.3
Since the upgrade path from 7.1 is only to 8.1 I'm trying to install 8.1 with the DVD in the new appliances.
But when I boot from the DVD, the installer says there are no device(s) for installation (see attachment).
Any ideas of what could be done to solve this?
Thanks
You need a temporary stand-alone primary system.
Newer appliances are not recognized by the old 8.1 installer, so you will need to find a device 8.1 can install onto, to get a migration accomplished. The easiest way to do this is set up any VMware ESX server and deploy the 8.1 OVA as a stand-alone primary, and migrate the data to it. Then once migrated, patch this system to 8.1 sp1, 8.2, 8.2 sp1, then 8.3, and finally you can backup the VMware primary and restore the backup to the hardware appliance 8.3 primary.
8.1.0.0.0 - base (can be migrated to)
8.1.1.0.0 - 8.1 sp1 update (can be migrated to)
8.2.0.0.0 - 8.2 update
8.2.1.0.0 - 8.2 sp1 update
8.3.0.0.0 - 8.3 update (can make a backup the hardware 8.3 can import)
Since backup and restore is version specific, you will need to go through the upgrade process on the temporary primary so it's backup file is marked as 8.3.

An alternate method would be determine if the 7.1 appliance replica (if RSA appliance 3.0.x.x) can be converted to 8.1. Then you might be able to convert one into 8.1 primary and use it as the machine to migrate to, and then upgrade to 8.3, and get a backup from it to move to the new hardware.
