Request Workflows

I am wondering what the best practice is for decision nodes, email nodes, and activity nodes within workflows. 99.9% of our nodes are in Approval or Fulfillment workflows, however we do have a use case for a couple decisions to send emails at the Request workflow level as well as an activity at the Request workflow level.


What is best practice for this?  Is this allowed by the system?  Are there any severe repercussions from the system for putting emails/decision nodes at the request level?


For the activity node in the Request workflow, I have a delay in until the request has moved to the fulfillment phase, and therefore the activity falls under the fulfillment phase.  Same questions as above, are there any repercussions for doing this?
