Software token device types

What is the difference in device types, Android 1.x, Android 2.x and IOS 2.x?  Do these relate to a OS versions?  I was unable to find Android 6.x or Android 7.x authenticators.  Thanks.

For the devices types you mentioned, there is not much difference, but if we do publish 

different device types, you should pick the device type which is the closest match to the

target device, and also follow the instructions in the software token admin guide for that device.

 

Software tokens can be formatted to fit specific devices, and pre-set with parameters

such as default device serial number, 6 or 8 digit, pinpad style or keyfob, and how

they are delivered. By selecting a specific device type you are ensured you won't have

options listed that will generate a token that just won't work on a certain device.

 

The major difference between device types, and selecting the appropriate one, is:

 

a) the method of token delivery 

 

b) the token interval 30 or 60 seconds

 

c) device serial number

 

d) anything else

 

In general, a 'generic aes token' will install on just about anything, but it won't have special options

an Android or iPhone can use...

Vladimir Shvets‌,

 

Edward Davis‌ explained the difference of the different software token device types and how they are templates to ensure the software token options selected when you distribute tokens are correct for that device.

 

The software token device type versions do not map to operating system versions.  For example, the software token that I have on my Android (running Marshmallow) was created using the Android 2.x device type.
