SecurID has released the SecurID 4.0 for iOS and Android app. The phased rollout of the app began January 10, 2022 and is expected to complete on January 17, 2022.
SecurID 4.0 for iOS and Android adds modern cloud-based multifactor authentication (MFA) to the software token functionality already present in the SecurID 3.0 app.
This app is designed so that your remote workforce can authenticate securely and conveniently, with minimal Help Desk assistance during app provisioning and authentication. For information that will assist your Help Desk, see this advisory.
Users must have smartphones that support the following operating systems:
- Android 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12
- iOS 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15
Note: Your company must be a SecurID customer to use this app.
Make sure you read Authenticators Unite – SecurID App 4.0 is Here! to understand what your existing users can expect when they switch from the old app to SecurID 4.0.
New App Name
When replacing the old app with the new SecurID 4.0 app, users go to the Apple App Store or Google Play to
download and install the app. To find the app in the app store, search for SecurID.
Benefits for SecurID 3.0 App Users
The new app is an update to the existing SecurID 3.0 app. If auto-updates are enabled on users’ smartphones, the app will update automatically. Users’ tokens will still be installed and working on the app after updating. There is no need to reimport tokens. Users will be able to perform the same actions with the new app as they could with the old app. No retraining for administrators or employees is needed.
Based on feedback from our loyal users, we made this app even better with the following enhancements:
- Fewer taps for users who have only one token. The keyboard for PIN entry opens automatically and the PIN field is selected by default.
- On the token card, swipe down (pull to refresh) to clear and re-enter your SecurID PIN.
New Card-Style Interface for MFA Accounts
Users who replace SecurID Authenticate 3.9.x with the SecurID 4.0 app will see their MFA accounts in the new card-style user interface, where they can easily rename and reorder their accounts, in addition to adding and deleting them.
Cloud-Managed Multifactor Authentication
With SecurID 4.0, users can use Approve (push notifications), Authenticate Tokencode, and Biometrics from a single app. Providing MFA on the same app as software token simplifies the management of your hybrid deployment and minimizes user disruption as you move from on-premises services to the cloud with the same authenticator app.
Simple, fast, and all within the same app!
Protection from Jailbroken or Rooted Devices
The SecurID 4.0 app protects your organization by automatically disabling itself on jailbroken or rooted devices. This important security enhancement follows best practices for secure software app deployment and limits malicious actors who might try to attack the device.
Make sure your users know that the app does not support devices that are jailbroken or rooted.
For more information, see this advisory.
Additional Usability Enhancements
The app user interface contains the following enhancements:
- Simply tap the tokencode to copy.
- Korean users can navigate the app with Korean language support.
Users who import a software token by scanning a QR Code follow the same steps in My Page and the Self-Service Console.
Accessibility Features
These features help visually impaired and blind users:
- On-board text-to-speech services can narrate core tasks.
- For users with low vision, the Submit button, PIN, and PIN field hint text are larger on certain cards.
Updating the Beta App
The beta app will not work indefinitely. Follow these steps to update the app while retaining all provisioned tokens and registered credentials:

In the Apple Appstore (iOS) or Google Play (Android) on the registered device, search for the SecurID app, and confirm that the description says, “With SecurID 4.0, you can authenticate with your existing software tokens or use additional cloud-based methods from a single app." - In the TestFlight app (iOS) or the SecurID app page on Google Play (Android), find the SecurID app.
- In the app listing, select the option to leave the beta program.
The beta app is not deleted. - Go to the Apple Appstore (iOS) or Google Play (Android), search for the SecurID app, verify that SecurID 4.0 is available, and install the update.
