Issue

The RSA Authentication Agent for Web for IIS installation fails with the following error:

Microsoft’s internet information server must be installed prior to starting the RSA authentication agent for web for IIS installation

Cause

This failure will happen if

• There are insufficient features and roles for IIS installed.
• The RSA web agent exe file is not run as administrator.

Resolution

1. Verify that the following features and roles are installed, including all the role services under them: 

• Common HTTP features 
• Application development 
• IIS 6.0 management compatibility
• .NET Framework 3.5 must be installed 

 

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 comes prepackaged with .NET 4.5 and Windows Server 2012 R2 comes prepackaged with .NET 4.5.1. However, .NET 3.5 is required.

3. Make sure that the IIS Admin service is set to Automatic and running and is not disabled.
4. Open a command prompt as an administrator and run the .exe installation file of the RSA Authentication Agent for Web for IIS from it.
