Issue
Replica instances are removed from an RSA Authentication Manager 8.1 deployment after migrating data from RSA Authentication Manager 7.1 Service Pack 4 or RSA SecurID Appliance 3.0 Service Pack 4 deployments.
Cause
Importing a migration package into RSA Authentication Manager 8.1 for the first time overwrites all of the data in the 8.1 deployment, including any attached replica instances.
RSA has documented this as a note on page 33 in the
RSA Authentication Manager 7.1 to 8.1 Migration Guide Migrating to a New Hardware Appliance or Virtual Appliance Revision 1, specifically:
Importing a migration package into version 8.1 for the first time overwrites all data in the 8.1 deployment and removes any attached replica instances.
Resolution
For hardware RSA SecurID Appliances an administrator would run through a factory reset to return the RSA SecurID Appliance back to a Quick Setup state. For virtual RSA SecurID Appliances an administrator needs to deploy another virtual appliance which would provide the Quick Setup state, as there is no factory reset for the virtual appliances.
NOTE: Before using Quick Setup administrators could logon to the local console of a virtual appliance with the rsaadmin account (default password is rsaadmin), shutdown the operating system and take a snapshot of the virtual appliance in a downed state. After the virtual appliance starts up an administrator can continue to use Quick Setup to configure either a primary or replica instance. In a sense the snapshot is provides a method of factory reset bringing back Quick Setup for those disaster recovery situations.
