Issue
"Starting RSA IMG Appliance Updater Service ... Logging to /var/log/rsaimg_updater.log"
but does not advance. There may be no error messages

but do NOT actually reset the root password, you are only doing this to be able to login by command-line as root.
Check the disk space:

In this example, the drive is 100% full
Determine which files can be safely moved elsewhere and deleted. Some examples are backups , old log files, old patch installers. If there are other unusual or non-standard large files or directories in a particular environment, these can also be considered.
