In all versions up to the latest 4.x version of SilverTail there are only 2 user access levels:
- Basic: Only allows access to the Forensics UI.
- Admin: Allows access to the entire SilverTail environment in a single Tenant configuration.
- MtAdmin: Allows access to the entire SilverTail environment in a Multiple Tenant configuration.
In versions 5.0.x and above there are multiple levels of user access levels:
- Basic: Only allows access to the Forensics UI.
- User Admin: This user is restricted to user management pages only. (This user does NOT have access to the Forensics UI)
- System Admin: This user is restricted to SilverCat (System configuration pages) and CUI (Certificate management pages)
- Rules Admin: This user is restricted to the Admin UI Rules tab and reports.
- Tenant Admin: This user is used for managing Tenants.
When upgrading from 4.6 and below to 5.0.x, the Admin roles will change slightly. Here is a breakdown of how those roles are changed:
- Basic users: No change
- Admin users: Users will continue to exist. On upgrades, existing admin users will be converted to a user with the following roles: basic, userAdmin, and rulesadmin.
- MtAdmin users: Users will continue to exist. On upgrades MtAdmin users will be converted to a user with the following roles: basic, useradmin, rulesadmin, and tenantadmin.
An additional user will be created during an upgrade that user will be called 'sysadmin' that user will be assigned the 'systemadmin' role and will have the default password for 5.0 systems.
