RSA customer support has verified that at both versions AM 8.8 Patch 2 and AM 8.8 Patch 3 Promotion for Maintenance fails with "Error: Failed to demote [original primary FQDN] from [promoted replica FQDN]."

If you are unable to update from AM 8.8 P2 or P3 to AM 8.9 before the promotion for maintenance, Support may have a potential fix that you could apply through SSH in Linux to AM 8.8 P2 / P3 that could let the original AM 8.8 primary attach to the newly prompted primary. Open a Support case and ask about the hot fix from Jira AM-64769. This 'fix' has only been tested once [as of March 17, 2026], so assess your risk accordingly.
